Aspiring firefighters are expected to maintain high levels of professionalism and trustworthiness, and therefore may require to undergo background checks, medical and drug tests as part of the hiring process.
Conditional Offer Requirements:
- Criminal record Check, including vulnerable sector check. Must have been granted a pardon or record suspension for any criminal convictions.
- Medical Exam: Candidates may be required to undergo a medical examination to ensure that they are physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a firefighter. Requirements are based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582 Standards. The NFPA standards also lists disqualifying medical conditions.
- Proof of immunization – including Hepatitis B, Rubella, Measles and Tetanus.

- proof of a valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract (less than 7 demerits)
